Who doesn’t love salted caramel?! and who doesn’t love chocolate?! Well we’ve combined the 2, and added delicious sweet Zeina pecan pieces to make an unbelievably indulgent treat. We know making your own pastry sounds daunting and time consuming, but this recipe is super quick and easy and will have you feeling like Mary Berry in no time!

  • 175g unsalted butter
  • 75g caster sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 250g plain flour
  • 20g cocoa powder
  • 35ml water

  • 200g dark chocolate
  • 200ml double cream
  • 200g light muscovado sugar
  • a pinch of sea salt

1. cream the butter and sugar together

2. add the 2 egg yolks and water and continue to whisk together

3. add the flour and cocoa powder and mix with a wooden spoon, and then your hands until the texture becomes dough like, then place in the fridge for an hour

4. roll the pastry out and place in your baking tin, then blind bake for 15 minutes at 180’c

5. remove the baking beads (we used our pecan pieces instead to make them nice and toasted!) and bake the pastry for another 12 minutes

6. leave the pastry case to cool while making the filling. add the cream, chocolate, muscovado sugar and sea salt to a heatproof bowl and melt using a bain marie

7. when the chocolate mixture becomes thick and glossy, pour it into the pastry case and place in the fridge to chill for 4 hours

8. to make the topping, add the sugar and salt to a pan and heat until it forms a caramel, then quickly mix in the pecan pieces and pour out onto a tray to cool and harden

9. once the tart is cool and the caramel pecans have hardened, break the pecans apart and use them to decorate the top of the tart

10. slice and enjoy!
