Not had enough Halloween fun with our Walnut Pumpkins and Spooky Ghosts? well we’ve come to the rescue with even more nutty Halloween recipes! these chocolate orange sparkly bat energy balls are sure to be a hit at the party, and as the bat’s bodies are made with nuts and fruits, they’re a great healthier alternative to the usual Halloween sweets and chocolates!

Ingredients

  • 325g Zeina Deglet Nour Tunisian Dates (you can use other dates, but Deglet Nour give the yummiest taste and texture!)
  • 150g Zeina Raw Almonds
  • 25g Cocoa Powder
  • 15 drops of orange oil
  • Oreos (for the bat’s wings)
  • 200g Dark Chocolate
  • 100g Black Sanding Sugar
  • Edible Googly Eyes

Method

  1. add the dates, cocoa powder, orange oil and 3/4 of the almonds into a food processor and blend until smooth
  2. add the rest of the almonds and blend for 30 seconds
  3. if the mixture is too dry, add a few drops of water and blend until it reaches the desired consistency
  4. shape the mixture into small balls and place on a baking tray
  5. cut the oreos in half, and stick 2 in each energy ball to look like bat’s wings
  6. place the energy balls in the freezer to set for 30 minutes
  7. melt the dark chocolate either in the microwave or using a Bain-marie
  8. coat the energy balls in the chocolate and sprinkle sanding sugar over the top while the chocolate is still melted
  9. place to set in the freezer for another 30 minutes
